Tablet Computer Sakshat launched for 35$ or Rs 1700/-


What is Sakshat?

Sakshat is a Tablet Computer based on Android Operating System. It will be launched on 5th October, 2011. It has been developed by Indian Institute of Science, Indian Institute of Technology, Rajasthan, and UGC as part of “National Mission on Education”.

The mini computer is  competent of performing nearly all of the function of a standard workstation. It is mainly build to aid education in India. The meaning of Sakshat is “before your eyes“.

Sakshat is 12.5 cm in wide, 25.5 cm in height tablet with 7 inch full LCD Touch Screen. It can perform most of the operations of a standard computer. Though it is a Tablet Computer, it can be used as a mobile phone. It has Wi-Fi & 3G Capabilities.

The main specifications of this tablet computer are:

It supports Adobe Flash Player for Internet browsing; it has some multimedia I/O interfaces such as DTV, IPTv and DTH. Other feature of Sakshat is: USB 2, miniSD which is expandable to 8 GB, Front Camera, built in keyboard, PDF Reader, SciLab, Fixed Ethernet port, WLAN, JavaScript, Remote device management ability and many more.

Other facilities included in Sakshat are:

  • USB port.
  • Wi-Fi.
  • 3-hour battery life.
  • In-built Keyboard.
  • 32 GB hard disk.
  • 2 GB RAM.
  • Solar charging option.
  • Rugged casing with a rubberized feel.
  • Headphone jack.

The operating system used is Andriod and currently google is in talks with the government of India to install other software’s.

It has 2 GB RAM & solar charging system. It has no battery. It is support 32 GB of External Hard Disk. It also supports to connect LCD Projector.

By using this Tablet you can use most of the multimedia content viewer such as .pdf, .docx, .doc, .ods, .adp, .xls, .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .bmp, .zip etc. It can be used for live video conference.

This tablet will help the literacy rate in rural population of India and will also bring down the price range of the laptop market in India. This would be the cheapest android table in the world and would be a turning point in the history of India.

How to buy Sakshat Tablet?

As it is a part of “National Mission on Education” so it will not available for retail. Only a student can buy it from their University & IIT. If they get a good feedback from the initial audience then they can take the decision to retail it. But it is sure that the 1st version of Sakshat is only for Student, so you may wait for the future version of Sakshat. The price of Sakshat is almost fixed at 35$ and will be launched by Kapil Sibal on October 5th , 2011. The price for the tablet PC would be Rs 1100/- for a student. The main target is to sell the Tablet Computer in 25000 colleges & 400 universities through the subcontinent.
